South and West Cheshire College
Our client had sustainabilty as well as value for money in mind when they chose to build the benches for the Atrium area at South West and Cheshire College out of Morph Bricks. Using recycled ABS plastic we built 117 no. 1.5m x 45cm benches that could then be arranged to match the curve of the atrium space.
The interiors were riveted to prevent tampering with the benches once installed and give extra longevity to the design but the rivets are removable as we wanted to keep future recycling and the circular economy as a priority in specification. At end of life we can collect the bricks for free and either reuse them or regrind and remould them into new bricks, creating a truly circular economy.
For this project grey laminate tops were selected but we can combine Morph bricks with all types of surfaces such as reclaimed scaffold tops, bamboo or reclaimed plastic tops. Different finishes are also available for the bricks such as white recycled ABS or Bio plastic bricks made from Floreon Therma, a material made from sugar cane and corn with fire retardant properties, a world first!
With a challenging lead time the benches were built and delivered in just over a month.
Morph bricks can be used to create all types of products, not just benches. They have been used in schools and colleges to provide dividers and walls but have also been used to create counters of all types, tiered seating and breakout seating spaces. The possibilities are endless and you can build what you need with the knowledge that you can later change into something else, helping us all reduce our carbon consumption.
At Cheshire College South and West we sought to increase our seating space due to our ever-growing student numbers. After seeing the Morph Brick bench product we were really impressed with the style and sustainability aspects these offered. The product has been excellently received by the College as a whole and has been a great addition to the student social spaces. We could not be happier with it.
