The Earthshot Prize 2024 – our story
Our involvement in The Earthshot Prize began in 2022 when Morph Bricks made an application through The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation, Lancaster University, an official nominator for the prize.
The Earthshot Prize, launched in 2020, is described as the most ambitious and prestigious of its kind, designed to provide incentives for change and help to repair our planet over the next ten years.
Having launched our new product Morph® in 2022 we are strongly aligned with the ambitions for The Earthshot Prize. Morph is designed to:
Build a Waste-free World
The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’. These are simple but ambitious goals for our planet which, if achieved by 2030, will improve life for us all and for generations to come. Morph is directly aligned to Earthshot ‘Build a Waste-free World’ which aims to build a world where nothing goes to waste and where the leftovers of one process become the raw materials of the next – just like they do in nature.
Morph bricks create multiple products for multiple applications. Standard designs and bespoke creations provide solutions for various needs and when those needs change, every product can be disassembled back to the component parts and reused for new designs. There is absolutely no waste! The bricks are robust and can be used time and again and if they do reach end of life, every component can be recycled back into the production of Morph, with no need for chemical recycling.
Late in 2023 we were contacted by The Earthshot Prize: “We have specifically contacted you because your solution was previously nominated by one of our Official Nominators. Although your solution did not progress to the final stages of our selection process in the last years, it was highlighted by our team of experts as particularly relevant to this year’s Selection Criteria”
Of course we were delighted and submitted our update.
2024 Earthshot Prize nomination
By January 2024, we received confirmation that our product Morph had been nominated for The Earthshot Prize 2024. We were later to find that we were one of just 2400 organisations to become an Earthshot nominee across the world!
The competition was high and as a small organisation with huge ambitions, we knew to be picked as a Finalist would be tough. In October 2024 at the third-annual Earthshot Innovation Summit, The Earthshot Prize unveiled its fourth cohort of Prize Finalists. Just 15 Finalists from the 2400 nominees were selected, three from each of the five categories and we wish them every success!
We were delighted to receive feedback from the assessors:
Your proposed solution integrates many of the components we need in order to transform our society towards a sustainable one.
You are using a resource we are now disposing of and enabling it to be used in another sector.
The modular concept of the proposed solution and the no-skill required for assembly make the product attractive
and offer the potential to scale its production. I commend you on this initiative and encourage you to continue working on it.
